Introduction to Season-led Floristry with Cissy Bullock

  • As a taster course for our flagship professional floristry course, this full day workshop provides an introduction to floristry using season-led materials and sustainable practices. It is a great way to discover if immersing yourself in beautiful flowers is the career for you.

    Working with seasonal materials grown on our flower farm, you will learn how to select your materials, the importance of conditioning, sustainable floral mechanics and how to make a hand-tied bouquet and low bowl arrangement.

    Lunch and refreshments will be will be provided prepared using ingredients grown in our kitchen garden.

    Your arrangements will be yours to take away with you.

Foam Free Church Flowers with Cissy Bullock
10th May or 11th October
10am - 1pm

  • Learn how to make beautiful pedestal arrangements for Church services without the use of floral foam.

    In this half-day workshop, Cissy will cover the sustainable floral mechanics required for pedestal and urn arrangements. We will also explore the use of locally grown flowers in these arrangements, including how to cut and condition them.

    The class will finish with tea and coffee and delicious homemade cake on the terrace.

Large Scale Foam Free Installations with Cissy Bullock
4th October
10am - 4.30pm

  • This full-day workshop explores how to design show stopping, large scale installations using sustainable mechanics and seasonal flowers and foliage.

    This hands on class includes the creation of a free form demonstration to cover the principles of design and the mechanics with student participation.

    Following a delicious lunch prepared using seasonal ingredients from the kitchen garden, students will create small group installations from a choice of mantlepiece, suspended or staircase installation within the magnificent Howbury Hall.

    Photography is an important part of floristry, as you build your portfolio, and the opportunity and styling for you to showcase and capture your work is included in the workshop.

Eco Urn Masterclass with Catherine Elworthy
3rd October
10am - 1pm

  • Create your own large urn arrangement, overflowing with seasonal flowers. Perfect for a wedding, church or marquee display. The talented Catherine Elworthy of Elworthy Flowers, will teach you how to make a wire-based structure – no floral foam in sight. Forage for foliage and cut your flowers from the walled garden and estate at Howbury.

    The workshop ends with tea or coffee, and delicious home-made cake on the terrace.

Eco Installation Masterclass with Catherine Elworthy
12th September
10am - 1pm

  • Under expert tuition from Catherine Elworthy, learn how to create two different types of show-stopping floral arches, filled to the brim with seasonal foliage and flowers cut from the Howbury Hall estate. This is a fully hands-on workshop in which you will also learn how to style and install a large hanging floral hoop. Understand the mechanics behind these installations and how to keep the flowers fresh and watered without the use of floral foam. You will forage for foliage, cut your own flowers and create these displays that work beautifully for weddings and other events.

    Places on this workshop will be strictly limited so that everyone has a fully hands-on experience.

    A delicious lunch made with produce grown on the estate will be provided.
